Public Statement Concerning the Arrest of Gregory Yeamans
A news story was issued on January 5, 2015 concerning the arrest of Gregory Yeamans, who has been charged with several counts of child abuse. Our church is deeply saddened by allegations such as these, and we have expressed our willingness to cooperate with any ongoing investigation as we seek to minister to and pray for all those involved.
We would like to clarify some of the misinformation that has been released.
Mr. Yeamans is not, nor has ever been, a pastor at Fairview at River Club, nor has he ever held any other staff position at our church. He has not been a volunteer in our student ministry since the Fall of 2013. The alleged incidents reported by the press occurred at his private residence and were not directly connected to any church sponsored program or event.
Our church takes the safety of our children and students very seriously. All volunteers working with minors, including Mr. Yeamans, have completed criminal background checks, and we have policies in place to help create a safe ministry environment.
Currently, we have reached out to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department but do not have any additional information concerning the allegations or how the families involved are connected to our church.
